Reviewing: The Moment We Began

The Moment We Began
By: Sarra Cannon

What It's About!

The moment they both believe all hope is lost is the moment something real finally begins.

I have loved Mason Trent for years, but I've only been sleeping with him for one.

None of my friends know about our secret passion. He's in my bed one night and in the arms of someone else the next. And it's tearing me apart.

I've done everything I can think of to make him mine, but the more I cling to him, the harder he pushes me away. I'm spiraling out of control, not sure how much more of this I can take. A girl can only bend so far until she breaks. And when I do, I break completely. I'm talking about one night of bad decisions, all leading to a my-world-will-never-be-the-same kind of moment. A moment where I need Mason more than ever. True to form, though, he's running.

But I intend to go with him this time. I'm willing to leave my money, my family, my friends behind for this one last chance to see if he could ever really love me the way I deserve to be loved. I'm willing to sacrifice forever if it means one real moment with him.

This is a full-length novel of 80,000 words.

My Thoughts!

I received this book through Net Galley in turn for an honest review.

This book wasn't for me. I just couldn't attach myself to the characters honestly. I like a good strong heroine. Penny wasn't like that at all. She worshiped the ground Mason walked on, and all he did was treat her like her feelings meant nothing. (Bringing girls around after they hooked up) I mean he didn't want to openly be in a relationship with her so if she couldn't have all of him out in the open she was perfectly content with a secret relationship. That is not okay! Then there is the whole pregnancy issue and camping soul finding journey. I just didn't buy into their relationship. It wasn't solid. More than once in this review I'd forgotten their names. A book is supposed to change your life. The way you think. I just pushed through just to finish it. It just wasn't for me. I've read worse...but I've definitely read better.

What It's About!

Fresh off the heels of a devastating breakup, Riley Benson is a mess. But with her ingenious plan to become a ball-busting heartbreaker herself, she’s pretty sure she’ll survive. After all, what better way is there to get revenge than to move on?

Max Fletcher is in love with the girl who gave him chicken pox and his first broken leg. When his best friend seems to finally be out of the picture, he can’t help but want to keep Riley all to himself. And, after coaching her with the very best of the very worst love advice, it seems as if he might actually get what he's wanted after all those years. But just as the two come to the realization that they're actually kind of perfect for each other, along comes a secret that threatens to tear them apart.

My Thoughts!

This book was sent to me through Net Galley in turn for an honest review.

Where to begin? Riley...Riley...Riley. It is all about her this whole book isn't it? Yes it was horrible that her boyfriend cheated on her. I sympathize, but the girl is consumed with herself. The Entire Book! She ends up sleeping with her best friend...then sneaks out. Then tests a relationship with him, then goes back to the same douche guy that cheated on her. In my opinion I don't think she deserved Max. Her and Noah deserved each other. Max was thoughtful and loved her just the way she was. Riley was constantly complaining. Whiny. Also I'm not a prude, but the amount of cursing in the book was insane. It dumbed the characters down, in my opinion. I just didn't like it. It wasn't for me.

What It's About!

“I met a girl and I can’t get over her,” says the ad, and goes on to describe Allie. “If you look like her, I’ll pay handsomely for one night with you.”

Can Allie summon the courage to answer the mysterious ad and go through with what it entails? And can she convince the enigmatic Zac to push aside his demons and give their love a chance?

My Thoughts!

I received this book through Net Galley in turn for an honest review.

Where to begin? So Allie is this virgin graduate living in the city. She's struggling to make her way working at some little diner. I get that. I feel for her. What I don't get is her being such a doormat to her brother. Having him demand 20+ thousand dollars without an explanation...Not on this planet. I mean she works at a diner. Did he expect for her to just summon a genie? She had major issues with pleasing and letting people use her. Zac for example. She held the virginity card for over 20 years then she gives it up like it was nothing. To someone she didn't even know. I don't relate or understand that. Then surprise surprise he's affiliated with the brother's money issues. Wasn't really surprising at all. I don't think I will be reading the next book. This one just really didn't cut if for me.

Reviewing: Retribution

Retribution
By: Amy Rachel Thompson

What It's About!

Regan Edison has just moved from California, to enter her first year at Georgia Liberty College, the place where jacked up Chevy trucks and hunting are a way of life. Regan hopes to start a new life for herself and she thinks that Georgia is just the place to do it. That is until she meets an unexpected stranger.

Colter Hayes is a member of the Collectors, a group of wrongfully punished lost souls. Colter and the rest of his team, Finn, Kaiden and Devon, work for the Requiem Council who pass judgment on those souls that are neither tagged for Heaven nor Hell. The Council has charged the Collectors with finding the lost in exchange for a chance at redemption.

When an ex-councilmember known to pass Retribution on lost souls sets his sights on Regan, the Requiem Council dispatches the Collectors to Georgia to work as protectors for Regan. The Collectors must fight to save Regan from a fate they know all too well, but can they work to earn back their chance at redemption or are their fates sealed forever?

Who is meant for Heaven?
Who is meant for Hell?
And who is just lost?

My Thoughts!

I received this book through Net Galley in turn for an honest review.

I struggled with this read. I didn't respect Regan. She seemed really immature and annoying. She was helpless. I get the paranormal thing is new for her and ,at first would be hard to accept, but shutting the guys out and constantly undermining them. Putting herself ,as well as them in danger all the time, was nerve wracking. The lost souls, Agro, and the council idea was really far fetched. My attention was lost just getting the concept of the story line.

I think this book had some really promising ideas, but too much shoved all at once. Just not my thing.

Reviewing: Peter Pan

Peter Pan
By: J.M. Barrie

What It's About!

Peter Pan, the book based on J.M. Barrie's famous play, is filled with unforgettable characters: Peter Pan, the boy who would not grow up; the fairy, Tinker Bell; the evil pirate, Captain Hook; and the three children--Wendy, John, and Michael--who fly off with Peter Pan to Neverland, where they meet Indians and pirates and a crocodile that ticks. Renowned children's-book artist Michael Hague has brought the amazing adventures of Peter Pan to life. His beautiful illustrations capture the wild, seductive power of this classic book. This newly designed edition will be enjoyed by fans young and old alike.

My Thoughts!

To me this book is a timeless classic. I can't wait to read it to my little girl. I grew up watching the Disney version, and I always wanted to read the actual book. Reading the book didn't change my view on Peter Pan. If anything it made me enjoy the story more. I especially loved the mermaids and their bubbles. I suggest everyone read it. Read it to your children!

Reviewing: Have Mercy

Have Mercy
By: Shelley Ann Clark

What It's About!

In Shelley Ann Clark’s seductive debut novel, two damaged souls discover that when they’re together, their bodies hit all the right notes.

Rock diva Emme Hayes already broke up one band after sleeping with the lead singer, and she swears she won’t let sex screw things up again. The problem is, her new bass player—a lean, muscular, tattooed mystery man who makes her want to demand his absolute attention—has her so worked up she can hardly carry a tune. Emme promises he’s off-limits. She just doesn’t know how she’ll be able to confine the heat to her love songs.

The moment Tom McKinney lays eyes on Emme strutting around the stage of his blues bar—all curves, eye liner, and teased blond hair—he knows she’s one of a kind. So when she offers him a two-month paid gig to tour with her band, Tom can’t say no, despite family troubles and the bar’s precarious finances. Onstage and off, the music they make thrums in his soul, but Tom has too much going on to get involved—even if he burns to let Emme play his body like a fine-tuned instrument.

My Thoughts!

I received this book from Net Galley in turn for an honest review.

I don't know if I couldn't attach to the character, because of the whole rock star life or if it was the story. Maybe it was a little of both. I couldn't put myself in Emme's shoes. She didn't stand up for herself when everyone blamed her for ruining a celebrity marriage. She also let certain band members rule her life and make decisions for her in her personal life. I like a character to be confident and sure of herself. Emme wasn't assertive unless she was in the bedroom or on stage.
Tom on the other hand was too much of a pushover. Everywhere. He let his drugged out drunk sister rule is bar and house. He let the band members rule who he dated. He let his father rule where he worked. Not to mention he liked to be dominated in the bedroom The whole yes ma'am..crawling on the floor...do whatever you say thing. Not a turn on what.so.ever. His description reminds of an ash tray. I couldn't attach myself to this book. It just wasn't for me.

Reviewing: The Trap

The Trap
By: Beverley Kendall

What It's About!

Looking back, I should have seen it coming.

Paige didn’t like that I went so far away to university. But it was going to only be for two years. She'd join me after she did her two years at community college. I thought we could swing that no problem. We were solid.

But she hated the distance. She hated not seeing me every day. She complained that I didn’t come home enough. She hated that for months on end, texting and phone calls were our only form of communication. It wasn’t enough.

She'd ask about the girls on campus. She’d gotten it into her head that girls were always making a play for me. I laughed and told her, even if that were true, I’d never cheat on her. She didn't seem completely reassured by that.

The bottom line is, Paige thought she was losing me. She wanted me home with her. But I could never imagine the level she'd sink to—the trap she’d set to make that happen.

And like an idiot I walked right into it.

And it’s a mistake I'm going to have to pay for the rest of my life.

My Thoughts!

I received this book through Net Galley in turn for an honest review.

This was a quick read. Thank goodness because I didn't like it. I didn't understand how a solid relationship could be torn apart that easily when she got pregnant. Mitch was upset that she got pregnant, because he felt his scholarship was a waste. That his life would be over without playing the game. That confuses me, because if he was so upset, then why did he start flunking out of college? Paige also had a secret at the beginning of the book that the author never shed light on. The entire book was her being pregnant and him being a complete ass and absent partner. Then at the end he wants to be a part of the baby's life. I don't respect him. I didn't believe in their relationship and I really wasn't rooting for them to be together. So I will not be reading the next one. Really disappointing. Not the book for me.
